Historic Kingfish Restaurant selling remaining Louisville and Southern Indiana restaurant locations after 78 years of service.

August 20, 2026 – The historic Kingfish Restaurant, which opened on Derby Day in 1948, has put its two remaining riverfront locations in Louisville and Jeffersonville up for sale. The Louisville restaurant is found at 3021 River Road, Louisville, KY 40207 and the Southern Indiana property is located at 601 West Riverside Drive, Jeffersonville, IN 47130.

According to the Kingfish website, Russell Austin and Henry Burns began on the corner of Fourth Street and River Road in downtown Louisville with a refrigerator full of fish, two fryers, and a cooler of beer. Since that time, great seafood and Kingfish Restaurants have become synonymous in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Mr. Austin and Mr. Burns sold the business in 1989. At its height of operations Kingfish had expanded to five restaurant locations. They were easy to spot with their unique Paddlewheel Boat design.

In recent years their efforts have been focused on making the riverfront locations a combination of great food and live entertainment. The building at 3021 River Road in Louisville has excellent Ohio River frontage and offers easy access to Louisville’s Central Business District from Zorn Avenue and I-71. The 17,537-sf restaurant sits on 5.27 acres of riverfront land. The parcel offers plenty of opportunity for expansion with the next owner of this historic venue. The Southern Indiana location property is 13,465-sf, built on 4.51 acres. The current property has multiple level outdoor decks for excellent views of downtown Louisville.
